He has a Pavement poster you know.

Ah Cokemachineglow. Always the first place I visit to find out about great new music. Well, right after Pitchfork. And Drowned in Sound. And PopMatters (and Another Form of Relief, of course). Well, I think its a cool site anyway. I was going to write an obituary for it today, after a (rather hilarious) goodbye note on the front page detailed its demise.. but upon revisiting, the site has returned – with new adverts and the pithy but relevant slogan “indestructable.” Which means I’m rather cunningly turning this into a celebration of the glorious return of Cokemachineglow. Well, ok, to be honest – I just can’t be bothered to start a new post. Especially after I had to ditch my nearly completed “congratulations on the new baby, Sufjan & Rosie” entry . (anyone who reads Pitchfork will know why) So here are some tracks that I might not have heard of if CMG didn’t exist.

MP3 – Lantern on the Water (expired)

A nice review and an amusing interview encouraged me to seek out (via Amazon Japan – which admittedley improved my language skills) the elusive Night Piece. And it was worth the effort. Probably my favourite album of 2004, despite only being about 30 minutes long.

MP3 – Velocity Beach (expired)

From the album “The Shimmering Masterpie” (on the Antidisestablishmentarianism label, in case you were interested) this is probably Carpal’s most accessible work to date. Ok, I’m bluffing; I’ve never heard anything by him before this. Plus his name is actually Chris Tullar. Anyway, its a nice album, and this is one of the best tracks.

MP3 Tapes n Tapes – Omaha

Buy it at Insound!Sure, every man and his dogs fleas have recommended Tapes n Tapes by now (and rightly so) but, well, I read the CMG review first, and that piqued my interest enough for me to download (and later purchase – see? – piracy works) The Loon. Which has some damn fine album art too, I might add. Omaha is my favourite track at the moment.
