Sufjan StevensThis may seem like something mildly basphemous to say, but I don’t really like . Nothing against the guy and all, but I just don’t really get it. I quite like a few songs, and things like ‘Chicago’ are pretty great, but beyond that, it’s all rather lost on me. I guess this is all an elaborate way of saying that I don’t get the hype, but that sounded kind of dumb.

Sufjan Stevens is a man who really likes his Christmas too. Over the past few years, he’s released not one, not two, but five Christmas EPs. These have been leaked on the net for quite some time now, but they finally gained an official release this year with the entire collection in one nice box. Which is great if you like Sufjan and Christmas. Of which I don’t really like either.

All that negativity aside, the song below is fantastic. ‘Come On! Let’s Boogey To The Elf Dance!’ should have you won over by the title alone, but if not, it’s basically just a Christmas version of ‘Chicago’ in the way that it sounds. It starts off gently and swells into an insanely elaborate arrangement which centres around the wonderful line of “Santa Claus is coming, hear the banjoes playing”. If Santa really were coming, I’d like to think he’d be heralded by a banjo instead of sleigh bells. That would be so cool.
