Orouni – A Greased & Golden Palm

One of the joys of this blogging lark is seeing artists grow right in front of you. It was almost two years ago that I first heard demo recordings from French singer-songwriter Orouni. Those songs were simple acoustic arrangements which held a lot of potential. His first full length album arrived last year, the songs proving far more layered than those original recordings. Another year on, and we have the first recordings from his forthcoming second album (due September) and it’s yet another evolution.
A Greased & Golden Palm adds new elements into the mix this time around. The instrumentation now offers far more, with various, sometimes random, sounds floating in and out of the recording. These run the risk of being distracting, but end up slotting in perfectly. The most welcome addition however is in the form of female backing vocals. Of course, any long term readers will know of my obsession with male-female vocal arrangements, but these ones, provided by Mlie, add a pitch perfect counterpoint to Orouni’s unique voice.
