Lucy and the Caterpillar doesn’t want your stupid crisps; will take your beans on toast

I’m kind of wary about writing about young female singer-songwriters at this points, and Kate Nash is to blame. After discovering her, I posted about her a whole bunch of times as those early songs were just so damn good. Hell, a fair chunk of my traffic is still made up of people either looking for Kate Nash songs or pictures. It all fell apart once her album came out though. Quite how we ended up with that turgid crap I have no idea, but there you go.
On that high note, I present Lucy and the Caterpillar for your consideration. The Caterpillar in question is apparently her 3/4 size guitar, although from the pictures on her Myspace page it looks regular size. Maybe she’s just rather small. She apparently owns a vintage clothing shop, which should be pretty irrelevant, but the fact her press release mentions this fact sets off alarm bells of a carefully crafted image. I’m just saying.
Now, I like these songs, but they are hard to entirely endorse. They veer dangerously close to territory that I would consider annoying. But the sweet little moments of melancholy that simmer underneath do make them worthwhile. Even if everything she comes up with in the future turns out to be as bad as what Nash churns out now.
MP3 Lucy and the Caterpillar – Beans On Toast
Videos for Beans On Toast and recent single Red, Red Wine after the jump.

Do you have any of those early Kate Nash songs as MP3’s that you could share? I’m interested in bands “before” they hit…
Cheers,
Ryan
There’s no way I could do that legally I’m afraid.
Her tunes work for me. Pretty voice and clever tunes. Thanks for these.
