The Answering Machine

The first time I heard was their blistering Silent Hotels single a couple of years ago. Then nothing. I don’t know if they have been particularly quiet in that period or whether I just haven’t kept up, but I’d almost forgotten about them when I stumbled upon Another City, Another Sorry. I won’t be forgetting them for quite some time now.

The song builds upon the strengths of that earlier single, jumping straight out from the opening seconds as something that demands attentions. It’s incredibly noisy, rough and tumble affair that makes it clear that it won’t let go. Words are shouted out in short bursts. It doesn’t really matter what they say either as it’s the feel that’s important. Don’t get me wrong, it’s lyrically solid, but the appeal of The Answering Machine is in the pure noise they manage to spit out.

The album, also titled Another City, Another Sorry will be released on June 15 via Heist or Hit Records.
