Say Hi use titles that make tagging mp3s more difficult than it should be

I have a confession to make about Say Hi. Even though I have liked every release (six including the Say Hi To Your Mom ones) I have never bought any of them. Even in this day of everything being available on demand, something seems wrong about that. In my defence, a few of those albums were downloaded on an eMusic free trial, so hopefully they still got a little back for them. One day I’ll pick up the albums in physical form, but seeing as I can’t find them below £10 each anywhere, it won’t be happening anytime soon.
That aside, Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh is taken from Oohs & Aahs, Eric Ellbogen’s sixth album in the space of seven years. It doesn’t seem like very long ago that I was taking in The Wishes and the Glitch, but here we are again.
The main revelation here is that we now seem to have production values. Not to insult the older material, as the lo-fi sound was part of it’s charm, but it’s nice to hear Ellbogen can do with a richer sound. It builds nicely, and the little flourishes dotted between each section slot in perfectly without ever dominating. The only slight disappointment is the mixing with the vocals. It could just be me, but they seem to be a little lower than they should be, making the words a little tricky to pick out given the pace of the song. Even this isn’t hugely important though as the song bombs along regardless.
Oohs & Aahs was released just yesterday on Barsuk.
For those of you reading via an RSS reader of some kind (half of you apparently!) or those who just don’t notice such things, we now have an account on The Twitter.
